We are fortunate to have very talented staff at Chelsea, including teachers who take on huge roles looking after our Chelsea Choir and the whole school production, enabling our students to participate in exciting performing arts opportunities.
Every two years, Chelsea School puts on a major, whole school musical production. This gives serious attention to the Arts curriculum and is a well loved event. The show goes over four nights and is an opportunity to showcase our learning and achievement to our community. It is not to be missed. These productions involve a great deal of work by our students and staff and are hugely enjoyed by the school community. Last year we presented “Seussical”. Our school has grown too big for a whole school production to fit in our school hall, so the N.E./Year 1’s perform their own special production at the end of year at the Christmas Carol evening.
We have 2 choirs at Chelsea School. Our “all comers” Kids for Kids choir is trained by Helen Lares (Year 4-6) and the APPA (Auckland Primary Principals Association) auditioned choir (Year 5-6) is trained by Rebecca Hedges. As well as training all year for their performances in the Vodafone Events Centre and Town Hall, the choirs also perform at school assemblies and the performing arts showcase. The choir and kapa haka group performed at a cultural show at the Bruce Mason Theatre – 2 July, 2019.
