Performing Arts

We are fortunate to have very talented staff at Chelsea, including teachers who take on huge roles looking after our Chelsea Choir and the whole school production, enabling our students to participate in exciting performing arts opportunities.

School Production
Every two years, Chelsea School puts on a whole school musical production. These productions involve a great deal of work by our students and staff and are hugely enjoyed by the school community. Our last school production was “Seussical” in 2018. As our school has grown too big for the whole school to fit in our school hall, the Junior School (Year 0/1) perform their own special production at the end of year Christmas Carol evening.

Chelsea Choir
We have 2 choirs at Chelsea School. Our “all comers” Kids for Kids choir is trained by Helen Lares (Year 4-6) and the APPA (Auckland Primary Principals Association) auditioned choir (Year 5-6) is trained by Rebecca Hedges. As well as training all year for their performances in the Bruce Mason Centre and Town Hall, the choirs also perform at school assemblies and at times, at community events.

Kapa Haka and Jump Jam
Our students also have the opportunity to partake in Kapa Haka and Jump Jam. The Kapa Haka runs as two separate groups (Year 0-2 and Year 3-6) and perform regularly at assemblies and community festivals. As a whole school, we partake in weekly Jump Jam fitness sessions, led by the Year 5-6 Jump Jam team. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the regional Jump Jam competitions. In 2019, our Year 5-6 Jump Jam team placed 2nd in the newcomers category and our junior team won the “Spirit of Jump Jam” award.
