Postgrads: Chelsea School's Before and After School Care Programme
Introduction
The Before and After School Care Programme provides on-site after school care for children from Chelsea Primary School between the hours of 7.30am and 8.30am and 3.00 pm and 6.00 pm. Enrolments are essential and the completion of an enrolment form is necessary before a child can enter the programme.
This programme is administered by the Board of Trustees who employs the programme’s Caregivers. The programme is a business venture and is self-funding with Chelsea Primary School as the sole benefactor of any residual funds once operating costs have been met.
The Board will provide a professional service to give your child a safe, secure environment and an enjoyable care experience.
Programme
There will be a varied and organised age appropriate programme for each day. This will include outdoor or indoor play activities as well as time set aside for homework. However, while the supervisor will be available during homework time it will remain the parents’/guardians’ responsibility to ensure all homework is completed and returned on time.
Policies
The School’s Health and Safety Policies have been adopted.
Hours of Operation
The programme will operate during the school term from 7.30am and 8.30 am for the morning session and 3.00 pm to 6.00 pm for the afternoon. It is important that the children are collected on time in the afternoon session. A full hour will be charged for time overruns prior to 6 pm and $1 per minute will be charged after 6 pm to cover the supervisor’s overtime.
Caregiver Ratio
Our ratio is 1:10 max and there will be 2 staff on duty.
Enrolments
These are divided into two categories as follows:
Regular – permanent bookings for specific nominated day/s of the week
Casual – bookings made usually at short notice and accepted dependent on numbers.
Enrolments and reservations may be made through the school office between the hours of 8.30 am and 3.00 pm.
The enrolment form can be downloaded here.
Fees
The fee is $16 for each day of attendance. If you have a permanent booking, you will be charged $5 if your child does not attend for any reason other than illness.
Notes:
- Prices include GST.
- All fees are to be paid at the school office during office hours, the week in which they are invoiced. Please make all cheques payable to Chelsea School.
- Fees must be paid in full by the due date. Overdue fees may be referred to a collection agency.
- A receipt will be issued on payment.
- The school is CYFS accredited for OSCAR (Out of School Care and Recreation) childcare subsidies. More information about OSCAR subsidies can be downloaded here and an OSCAR subsidy application form can be downloaded here.
Cancellations
Casual booking cancellations are required before 12 noon on the day of the booking or the normal fee applicable to that booking will be charged. Cancellations due to sickness of 3 days plus will be treated on a case by case basis.
Complaints
The programme has a complaints procedure. If you have any problems please approach the supervisor, or if necessary, the Principal and she will be happy to assist you with your concerns.
Clothing
Children are expected to remain in school uniform.
Refreshments
All children will receive a light breakfast for the morning session and a snack and drink for afternoon tea on arrival in the afternoon programme.
Illness, Accidents and Safety
Children who become ill during the After School Care Programme will be made as comfortable as possible and the parent (or emergency contact person) will be notified.
Should a serious accident occur parents will be contacted immediately. If necessary, and with your permission, the child will be taken to White Cross, Glenfield or an ambulance will be called.
All accidents will be reported and signed in the attendance book.
Any children missing from the programme will be subject to an immediate and thorough checking procedure.
Sick children will not be accepted as we do not have the facilities to care for them. The normal school premise that a child should be completely well to be at school, will apply.
Discipline/Behavioural Management
A high standard of behaviour is expected.
Guidelines for correct behaviour will be discussed with the children so that they clearly understand what they can and cannot do. Inappropriate behaviour will be discussed to ensure the children fully understand why it is not acceptable.
Serious or repeated cases of unacceptable behaviour will be recorded and parents informed. If continued over several days, parents will be asked to meet with the co-ordinator to discuss the child’s behaviour. If there is no improvement, the co-ordinator, in consultation with the Board of Trustees, reserves the right to exclude the child from the programme either for a set period or permanently.
Collecting your Child
When arriving to collect your child please sign them out in the attendance book and ensure that the Supervisor has been told that you are taking your child.
Custody and Access
Children may only go home with Parents or Guardians who are on the enrolment form. However, should you want your child to be collected by somebody different, please inform the school by a signed note, fax or email on the day.
Communication between Parents and Staff
If there are any questions concerning the programme please address them initially to the Programme Supervisor. If you remain unsatisfied, address them to the Principal. If still unsatisfied please address your concerns in writing to the Board of Trustees.
The above procedures are in place to ensure the smooth running and long term success of the programme. Failure to comply with the conditions of this programme set out herein may lead to the exclusion of your child from the programme. We hope you will assist us with this process.
